My name is Jochen Kleeberg, I am co-founder and managing partner of alpha portfolio advisors. I am married and have two daughters.
When I was about 12 years old, I already had the desire to start my own company at some point in my life. After buying my first shares at the age of 18 and then studying business administration with a focus on finance in Münster, I joined the US company Barra as a consultant in 1991. This was the perfect decision for me, as I had outstanding mentors at Barra in Stan Beckers, Richard Grinold and Ron Kahn, who were at the forefront of research in terms of methodology, but also knew the practice of institutional investment inside out. I also took on management responsibility early on, researched the minimum variance portfolio, gave specialist presentations and got to know the asset management industry and its players at a young age. After my doctorate, extensive lecturing activities and the publication of the portfolio management handbook, the time was ripe to realise my dream of running my own company. On 15 May 1998, my founding partner Dr Christian Schlenger and I went to the notary and that was the starting signal for alpha portfolio advisors.
I am guided by my ongoing fascination for the financial markets, which provide new data points every day. Their dynamism and complexity also provide the perfect breeding ground for the "alpha" that we seek for our clients by selecting the best investment strategies. This challenge drives me anew every day to create sustainable added value for our clients.
I firmly believe that a balanced lifestyle is essential for long-term success and personal well-being. Regular endurance sports such as cycling and swimming in combination with targeted strength training provide me with a physical balance to the mental strain of my work. These activities help me to think clearly and stay creative. Spending time with my family is also very important to me, as it gives me inner stability and deep joy.
