Florian Hertlein

Can you introduce yourself in a few words?

My name is Florian Hertlein. After joining alpha portfolio advisors in July 2006 as an investment consultant specializing in manager selection, I have been one of three managing partners since January 2016. I live with my wife and two children in the Taunus region and enjoy the short distances in the beautiful Rhine-Main area.

Can you tell us something about your career path and how you came to alpha portfolio advisors?

During my dual studies at Ansbach University of Applied Sciences, I became aware of Dr. Jochen Kleeberg's "Handbuch Portfoliomanagement" as part of my major in finance. When my supervising professor Dr. Thomas Zimmerer, who in addition to his professorship also held a senior consultant position at alpha, drew my attention to a current job advertisement at alpha portfolio advisors, my interest was piqued. The interview with Dr. Jochen Kleeberg in January 2006 inspired me so much that my decision was quickly made: I wanted to become an alpha team member.

What feeling guides you?

I have been fascinated by the capital markets since my youth and it gives me great pleasure to be able to work in this dynamic and complex environment. The clear measurability of success and the intensive contact with outstanding portfolio managers continue to inspire me even after almost 20 years at alpha. I find the dialog with our institutional clients as part of our advisory practice particularly motivating.

How do you ensure the right balance in life?

My family plays a central role in my life, gives me the strength I need and regularly provides me with a change of perspective. I am particularly drawn to the mountains to switch off and relax. Especially in winter, when the snow transforms the landscape into a magical backdrop, I recharge my batteries for the working day with winter sports.

In another life, you would be...

I've always wanted to be an entrepreneur; as a child I was able to supplement my pocket money by selling football autograph cards and as a teenager I ran a small tutoring business. Even though I find it very difficult to imagine pursuing a career without any connection to the capital markets, running a ski school or a rustic hut in the mountains might be a charming combination.
